Aside from the classical food allergies caused by IgE antibodies, pseudo-allergies or sugar intolerances (lactose, fructose) there is a growing significance of IgG4-mediated intolerances. These are not allergies in the classical sense, although IgG4 may cause allergy-similar symptoms by releasing histamine and increasing weight.
Much more frequently the intolerance reactions caused by IgG4 manifest themselves in unspecific symptoms – generally not until hours or days after the consumption of the responsible foods. Food intolerances may cause completely different complaints.
